What is IASTM?

By gently gliding these instruments over the skin, our chiropractors can effectively break down scar tissue, fascial restrictions, and adhesions that hinder mobility and cause pain. This targeted approach promotes tissue healing, reduces inflammation, and restores function, allowing you to move freely and embrace life to the fullest.

At The Pittsburgh Chiropractor, we understand the unique challenges faced by individuals of all ages and backgrounds. Our IASTM services cater to men and women between the ages of 18 and 65, addressing a wide spectrum of conditions, from chronic back pain and neck stiffness to sports injuries and post-surgical rehabilitation. Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Graston and IASTM?
Graston and IASTM are both instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization techniques. While Graston is a specific branded technique that uses patented instruments, IASTM refers to the general use of instruments to treat soft tissue dysfunction. At The Pittsburgh Chiropractor, our chiropractors are skilled in various IASTM techniques, ensuring you receive the most effective treatment for your specific needs.

What are the potential side effects of IASTM?
IASTM is generally well-tolerated, with minimal side effects. Some patients may experience temporary redness, bruising, or soreness in the treated area, but these typically resolve within a few days. Our chiropractors will closely monitor your response to treatment and make any necessary adjustments to ensure your comfort and safety.

Does IASTM actually break up scar tissue?
Yes, IASTM has been shown to effectively break up scar tissue and adhesions within soft tissues. By applying controlled pressure and friction to the affected area, the instruments help to realign collagen fibers, promote tissue remodeling, and improve overall tissue quality. This process can help restore normal function and reduce pain associated with scar tissue buildup.

Let me start by saying I’m 70 and have been doing chiropractic for over 40 years Dr. Alex is one of the BEST! He listens to your issues and treats accordingly. On my first visit I could barely walk, and could not stand straight. He’s made so much progress and I’m feeling much better!! Would recommend him to anyone.

I came to Dr. Tauberg with shoulder pain (which I ignored for years, and it turned out to be rotator cuff tendinopathy), as well as some slight pain in my Achilles tendon (I was treated for Achilles tendinitis a year ago, and I started feeling some similar pains again). He addressed both issues with physical therapy and I’m now mostly pain-free, and I know that if the pain resurfaces, I can have him address it again. I like that he’s encouraging me to strengthen my tendons, rather than just giving up running or weight training. He’s also very friendly and knowledgeable and makes you feel like you’re in control of your recovery. Highly recommended!
